Hunt to level up: you start with a machete that only works on small animals, so crouch and keep still to let the curious compies come close. Kills unlock guns, vehicles and finally a rifle that can stop a T. rex, which hunts by movement. Dense jungle, deep water, or crouching motionless can save you.
